farm life

I grew up in a big city. I never imagined I would end up on a farm! Well, here I am and glad for it. We have beef, pigs, ducks, layer chickens, and a large fish pond. Just in case you were like me when I got to the farm, there is a difference between layer chickens and grower chickens. We have layers, so we get eggs! We grow our own hay (from organic seeds) to feed our beef. Our animals only eat organic food. We fertilize our field with a combination of manure (from our animals) and fish pond water.

It is educational to watch the animals interact with their kind and with others on the farm. I am amazed and chuckle at how beautiful, and funny, nature is! I have learned so many things and have shared them with my family, friends, and clients. I am excited to start sharing them with you!

For example, I have learned about eggs, pecking orders, and meanings to popular sayings or words (like ‘brooding’). I recently played around with a vlog about eggs. Eggs are so different in size, color, and shape. Yet, crack them open and they all have the same inside with yoke and chalaza. (Yes, the white part of an egg is called the chalaza.) Isn’t that a lot like life? So many differences on the outside, yet we are made the same on the inside. (More about that in the days and weeks to come!)

Right now, I am just beginning to build my website. So, check back often for exciting updates from the farm! I will post a vlog about eggs and so much more! Lessons from the farm will have pictures (who doesn’t love to see cute farm animals), blogs, vlogs, and recipes.
